Women's Soccer Battles Drexel to Scoreless Draw in CAA Opener

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The William & Mary women's soccer team and Drexel ended in a scoreless draw at Vidas Field on Thursday, which served as the conference opener for both teams. The Tribe managed two shots on goal, but the Dragons' defense held firm. 

The match was a physical one from start to finish. Gwen Doughty recorded six saves to ensure the clean sheet for W&M.

The first half was marked by a strong defensive effort from the Green and Gold, with Doughty making key saves, notably stopping shots in the 4th minute and the 33rd minute. 

Lily Hall recorded W&M's lone shot on target in the 37th minute, but Sammy Widnick made the save for Drexel, keeping the score level at 0-0 at the end of the half.

The second half commenced with the Tribe immediately mounting pressure, signaled by Ellie Leffler's off-target shot in the 46th minute. Despite facing a series of fouls, the team maintained their offensive aggression. 

Paige Seitz had the best chance for the Tribe of breaking the scoreless draw, firing a shot from just inside the box in the 78th minute, but the attempt narrowly skirted by the left post. 

Lindsay Wilson also tested the Dragons' defense but couldn't find the net. 

Doughty anchored the defense effectively, making crucial saves in the 60th and 67th minutes, preserving the scoreless draw by the end of the half.

The next challenge for is a trip to Towson, Md., where they will face the Towson Tigers on Sunday. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m. at FloCollege.
