Ninth-Inning Comeback Helps Tribe Split with Towson Saturday

TOWSON, Md. — A go-ahead, two-run double in the ninth inning by Anthony Greco capped off a five-run rally as William & Mary upended Towson 7-6 on Saturday to split a pair of contests in the regular season finale at John B. Schuerholz Park.

The Tribe (21-33, 14-13 CAA) dropped the first game 13-11, which had been suspended in the bottom of the seventh on Friday night due to inclement weather. With the win, W&M clinches the four-seed in the CAA Tournament beginning on Wednesday.

GAME ONE
The Tribe jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Friday evening on a solo home run by DH Christian Rush in the first inning.

Towson (21-35, 11-16) responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame off Tribe starter Zach Boyd. A solo homer in the second extended the Tigers' lead to 5-1.

W&M inched closer in the third when center fielder Ben Parker hit a leadoff home run to left field. Second baseman Derek Holmes would drive in another run on an RBI double that made it 5-3.

Towson broke the game open with eight runs in the third to take a commanding 13-3 lead.

The Tribe clawed their way back. After the first two batters reached to start the top of the fourth, shortstop Owen Wilson went deep for his first home run of the season, trimming the deficit to 13-6.

Following a Parker single, left fielder Lucas Carmichael shot a line drive over the right field wall for W&M's fourth home run of the ball game as the Tribe put up a five-spot in the inning.

LHP Ryan Feczko got the Tribe through the middle innings, holding Towson scoreless from the fourth through the sixth.

In the seventh inning, with a runner at first base, catcher Charlie Felmlee blasted a two-run homer to left field to cut the lead to 13-10. It was Felmlee's first career roundtripper.

Following the resumption of play on Saturday, the Tribe cut into the lead further with an RBI groundout from Holmes in the eighth. However, W&M left the bases full and got no further, falling 13-11.

Towson's Jacob Whiteman got the win while Kyle Emmons earned the save. Boyd was charged with the loss.

GAME TWO
Towson plated a pair of runs in the first to take an early 2-0 lead.

The Tribe got on the board in the bottom of the second thanks to a fielding error by the Towson second baseman that allowed third baseman Jamie Laskofski to score.

From that point, Towson took command, scoring twice in the third and once in the fourth and sixth innings to go ahead 6-1.

In the seventh, W&M started their rally with two runs on RBI singles from Carmichael and Laskofski. The freshman Laskofski had a 4-for-5 day in game two, tying a career-high in hits, while two runs and two RBI.

The comeback continued in the ninth when the Tribe started the frame with three consecutive singles. A Laskofski RBI base hit cut the Towson lead to 6-4. Holmes then added a sacrifice fly to make it a one-run ballgame.

With two outs and two runners on, first baseman Anthony Greco provided the heroics with a go-ahead two-RBI double to give W&M its first lead, 7-6.

On the mound, the duo of RHP Jack Weight and Reed Interdonato combined to hold the Tigers' scoreless for the final three innings. Interdonato was the winning pitcher, going two shutout frames and retiring six of seven batters he faced to close out the contest.

Nate Nabholz took the loss for Towson.
