Delaware Spoils Men's Tennis Senior Day

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the Mackesy Tennis Center, before dropping a CAA match-up with Delaware, 6-1.

Prior to the match, the Tribe (5-10, 2-4 CAA) honored its senior class of Alexander Karman, Sean Joseph, and manager Viet Nguyen for their contributions to the program.

On the court, sophomore Oliver Hague tallied the lone Tribe victory on the day with a three-set win at No. 2, knocking an All-CAA First Team player from last season in Karol Malirz.

How it Happened
- The Blue Hens opened the match by capturing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. On line two, the Tribe pair of senior Sean Joseph and freshman Gur Trakhtenberg were locked into a 5-all match with Karol Malirz and Ram Mude when the match was abandoned with the point decided.
- Delaware (12-6, 3-0 CAA) increased its lead to 3-0 with straight set wins at No. 5 and No. 6.
- The top four positions all went to three sets. Sophomore Nikita Bortnichek and junior Albert Hansen jumped out to set leads at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
- Bortnichek took the opening set from Tobey Lock, 6-3, on line three. The Blue Hen junior rallied with a 6-1 win in the second and then clinched the Delaware victory with a 6-2 win in the decisive third.
- Traktenberg and Hauge both rallied from set deficits at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, for force third sets. After dropping the opening set to Piotr Siekanowicz, 6-3, Traktenberg fought back with a 6-3 win of his own in the second. The Blue Hen rookie outlasted the Tribe freshman in the final set, 6-4.
- Hague tallied his 13th win of the season with a come-from-behind three-set win at No. 2. Malirz won the opening set by a narrow 6-4 margin, before the Tribe sophomore answered with a 6-3 win in the second. Hague pulled out a close 6-4 win in the third for his second CAA win of the year.
- At No. 4, Hansen took the opening set from Euan Mackenzie, 6-4, but the Blue Hen player answered with a narrow 6-4 win in the second to knot the match. Mackenzie rounded out the UD win in a third-set victory.
