Tribe Erases Six-Run Deficit, Takes Series Opener at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Trailing by six runs after the first inning, William & Mary scored eight unanswered runs the rest of the game while holding Stony Brook scoreless as they beat the Seawolves 8-6 in the series opener at Joe Nathan Field on Friday afternoon.

The Tribe (17-24, 10-6 CAA) registered its largest comeback win of the year and won its fourth straight ballgame. Third baseman Jamie Laskofski and second baseman Derek Holmes both had three-hit days, while left fielder Lucas Carmichael went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a homer, including the go-ahead RBIs in the eighth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook (21-18, 8-8) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning as they got into the Tribe's bullpen.

W&M began chipping away at the lead, scoring on an RBI single by DH Charlie Iriotakis in the top of the second.

LHP Tom Bourque held the Seawolves scoreless in the second and third, getting help from a caught stealing by catcher Jerry Barnes.

In the fourth, left fielder Christian Rush blasted a leadoff home run that made it 6-2. W&M soon loaded the bases after three singles but was unable to do further damage.

Bourque took the mound in the bottom of the fourth and got two more outs before handing the ball to RHP Connor Kolarov, who promptly got a flyout to retire the side.

In the next half-inning, right fielder Lucas Carmichael went deep to straightaway center to make it a 6-3 Stony Brook lead. After a walk to Rush and back-to-back singles, first baseman Anthony Greco delivered with the bags full as he hit a single through the right side for an RBI.

Kolarov put up a goose egg in the fifth to hold the deficit at two runs.

W&M's pitching staff kept them in the game in the later innings. RHP Tyler Kelly worked a 1-2-3 frame in the sixth, while RHP Danie Lingle followed up by retiring the Seawolves in order in the seventh.

In the top of the eighth, the Tribe loaded the bases for center fielder Ben Parker, who delivered a clutch two-run double down the left field line to tie the game at 6-6. In the ensuing at-bat, Carmichael gave the visitors their first lead with another double that plated Owen Wilson and Parker.

W&M led 8-6 going into the eighth. Lingle returned for another inning and promptly set down the Stony Brook order in succession, getting a pair of ground ball outs.

After a scoreless top of the ninth, Lingle closed the game out on the mound. He worked around a one-out single and got the final two Stony Brook batters to fly out to end the game.

Lingle was the winning pitcher, going three scoreless frames with one hit and no walks. Jacob Pedersen took the loss for Stony Brook.
