ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Seven different players recorded a hit, while the Tribe pitching staff teamed up to hold Navy to two earned runs, as William & Mary took down the Midshipmen 9-3 on Tuesday evening at Max Bishop Stadium.
The Tribe (16-24) earned their first road midweek victory of the season. INF
Jamie Laskofski led the offense, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, including a triple. W&M threw seven different arms, limiting Navy (22-20) to just six hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both offenses were quiet in the first two innings. That changed in the third when center fielder
Ben Parker hit an RBI double to drive in
Owen Wilson, extending his hitting streak to 26 games in the process.
Parker then came around to score on an RBI single by Laskofski to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
On a staff day, the Tribe got two scoreless innings from starter
Chad Yates, who allowed no hits and struck out one. He gave way to LHP
Tom Bourque, who tossed a shutout third inning.
Navy got on the board in the fourth with an RBI groundout. W&M answered in the next half-inning when left fielder
Christian Rush blooped an RBI base knock into right field for a 3-1 lead. Laskofski followed up with a run-scoring fielder's choice groundout.
The Midshipmen cut into the Tribe advantage with a solo homer in the fifth, but they would get no closer as the Tribe bats continued to work. In the sixth, DH
Lucas Carmichael doubled down the right field line to plate Parker and Wilson and put W&M ahead 6-2.
RHP
Zach Boyd put up a goose egg in the seventh, retiring the Midshipmen in order.
W&M added three key insurance runs in the top of the ninth, starting when Laskofski tripled to right center for another RBI. Second baseman
Derek Holmes followed up with an RBI single, part of a 2-for-4 day with a walk.
A bases-loaded walk to Wilson made it 9-3 in favor of the Green & Gold.
RHP
Reed Interdonato closed things out on the mound, delivering two innings with no runs, one hit, and two strikeouts, plus no walks.
Interdonato was the pitcher of record for W&M. Timmy Virtudes took the loss for Navy.
