Men's Tennis Drops Nailbiter at Drexel, 4-3

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – William & Mary men's tennis dropped a close CAA match against Drexel, 4-3, at the Vidas Courts on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Tribe (5-13, 2-5 CAA) kicked off the matchup with a crucial doubles point secured by senior Sean Joseph and freshman Gur Trakhtenberg at the No. 2 spot. Trakhtenberg continued with a singles victory on court 1, and was followed by Albert Hansen's win at No. 4 singles. However, Drexel (10-5, 2-2 CAA) won the remaining four singles spots to secure the 4-3 win.
 
How It Happened
- In a trio of close doubles matches, the Tribe pair of Oliver Hague and Albert Hansen tallied a 6-3 victory over Antonio Franquis and Josue Guzman on court 3. It marked the pair's third doubles win of the season.
- With doubles even at one each, Joseph and Trakhtenberg put the Tribe on top 1-0 with a tiebreaker win at No. 2. The Tribe tandem downed Will Burridge and Hussein El Tawil, 7-6 (5), on court two. Joseph and Trakhtenberg extended their win streak to three matches and advanced to 8-3 overall.
- Moving onto singles, Albert Hansen defeated Egor Kirakosov in straight sets on court four, 6-2, 6-1, to record his ninth win of the year.
At No. 1, Trakhtenberg won the third point for the Tribe, defeating Alex De Sousa in a three-set battle, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(0). Trakhtenberg improved to 5-5 at No. 1 and 16-12 overall.
- The Dragons tallied singles wins at No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to clinch the team victory.
 
Up Next
The Tribe returns home for its final regular season match against Richmond on Tuesday, April 15, at 4 p.m., at the Mackesy Tennis Center.
