Kansas State Takes Saturday Baseball Contest

MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Kansas State offense exploded early and often as they dropped William & Mary baseball by a 17-5 final on Saturday afternoon at Tointon Family Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tribe (4-10) put themselves in an early hole as they allowed four runs in the first inning. The visitors got on the board with a second-inning solo home run by right fielder Christian Rush, his fifth longball of the season.

After Kansas State (8-5) blew the game open with eight runs over the next two frames, the Tribe responded with a three-run fourth inning. Following a pair of singles, catcher Witt Scafidi drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Consecutive RBI doubles by shortstop Owen Wilson and third baseman Kevin Francella helped cut into the lead. It marked the first RBI of the season for both players.

First baseman Derek Holmes had a 3-for-4 day, adding an RBI double in the fifth inning. Rush went 2-for-4 and scored twice.

The Wildcats would add one run in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh on a home run to end the game via run rule.

Donte Lewis was credited with the win for KSU, while Tribe starter Reed Interdonato was tabbed with the loss.
