Laskofski Walks Off Hofstra as Baseball Gets the Sweep

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Down to the final strike, third baseman Jamie Laskofski hit a walk-off two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to send the William & Mary baseball team to a 16-15 win over Hofstra on Sunday afternoon.

The win clinched a series sweep for the Tribe (10-17, 4-2 CAA).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Hofstra (10-17, 2-4 CAA) took the early lead with three runs in the first inning on the strength of two home runs.

The Tribe did respond in the bottom of the frame when left fielder Christian Rush smacked a two-out RBI base single to left that made it 3-1.

W&M starter Ryan Feczko got a shutdown inning in the second, retiring the Hofstra side in order.

In the bottom of the second, Laskofski helped manufacture a run when he led off with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch, before being driven in on an infield single from catcher Jerry Barnes III that made it a 3-2 ballgame.

The Pride extended their lead to 5-3 in the third inning when Tyler Cox hit a two-run homer, his second longball of the day. W&M flexed their own power in the ensuing half-inning as DH Luas Carmichael took Hofstra starter Sean Hamilton deep for a solo homer.

For Carmichael, it was his fourth home run in five games.

RHP Tom Bourque entered in the fourth inning and got a groundout to strand runners at second and third, though the Tribe did concede a run.

The home team finally claimed the lead in the fifth. Rush started the rally when drew a bases-loaded walk that cut the lead to 6-4. Second baseman Derek Holmes then drove a bases-clearing double into the gap for three runs, putting the Tribe ahead 7-6.

Barnes added another RBI single that plated Holmes, capping off a five-run inning.

After Hofstra loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth, RHP Tyler Kelly did yeoman's work to evade trouble, recording three consecutive strikeouts as the Pride settled for just one run.

W&M gave themselves more cushion in the bottom of the seventh when Rush blasted a leadoff homer for a 9-7 lead. After a bases-loaded walk to shortstop Owen Wilson, center fielder Ben Parker sent everyone home with a three-run double as W&M went ahead 13-7.

However, the Pride rallied with a big eighth inning as eight runs came across to score.

W&M had one more rally left in them. After a pair of singles, Parker came around to score the Tribe's 14th run thanks to a throwing error by the Hofstra shortstop. Rush was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Laskofski then provided the heroics, blooping a single to center field that plated two as Rush came home to score the winning run.

RHP Connor Kolarov was the pitcher of record, getting an out in the ninth. Tanner Sanderoff took the loss for Hofstra.
