Tribe Unable to Keep Pace with VCU

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The William & Mary baseball team was unable to keep up with the VCU offense as they fell to the Rams 16-4 on Tuesday evening at Plumeri Park, snapping the team's three-game winning streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams (8-20) scored four runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead out of the gate.

W&M (10-18) did get one back in the bottom of the first when center fielder Ben Parker hit an RBI triple down the right field line, part of a 2-for-4 night. The Tribe, however, left the bases loaded.

The visitors would extend their lead with three more runs in the second. In the bottom of the third, left fielder Lucas Carmichael deposited a home run over the left field wall.

For Carmichael, it marked his fifth home run in the last six games. He went 2-for-4 with two runs and six total bases in the loss.

The Rams would continue to add to their advantage, homering twice in the fifth as they went ahead 12-3. First baseman Anthony Greco got one back with an RBI single in the home half of the frame.

The Tribe tacked on one more in the seventh when second baseman Ethan Rothstein scored via wild pitch. VCU added four in the eighth to make it a 16-4 final.

RHP Noah Hertzler provided relief for the bullpen, going 2 ⅔ scoreless innings. He struck out two and allowed no hits.

VCU's Jack Hoeymans was credited with the win while W&M starter Chad Yates took the loss.
