Errors Plague Tribe in Loss to Boston College

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The William & Mary baseball team led by as many as six runs but was unable to hold on late as they fell to Boston College 13-11 on Friday night at Plumeri Park in the first game of the Central Virginia Classic.

The Tribe (4-5) lost despite out-hitting the Eagles 15-10. RF Christian Rush went 3-for-5 with five RBI while RF Lucas Carmichael also had a three-hit-day, going 3-for-5 with two driven in. Errors hurt the W&M cause as six miscues led to seven unearned runs for BC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first, the two teams combine for 10 runs in a wild second inning.

Boston College (3-3) went ahead with four runs in the top half of the frame. W&M then cut the lead in half thanks to a two-run RBI single from Laskofski.

The Tribe tied it up at 4-4 after consecutive RBI base knocks from CF Ben Parker and Carmichael. After a walk to load the bases, Rush laced a single down the left field line that plated two more, giving W&M a 6-4 advantage.

RHP Carter Lovasz settled things down after that, retiring the side in the third inning with a pair of strikeouts. The senior went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs while fanning seven Eagles.

Laskofski punched in another run in the third inning as he singled to score Derek Holmes.

In the fourth, Rush blasted a three-run homer to left center as W&M went ahead 10-5. Carmichael tacked on an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Boston College responded with two runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh to take a 12-11 lead. William & Mary struggled to muster offense in the late innings, as they went down in order from the sixth to eighth.

The Tribe did get two runners on in the ninth inning but were unable to score.
