UNCW Snaps Men's Basketball's 13-Game Home Court Win Streak

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary led by as many as nine in the second half but a late UNCW run snapped the Tribe's 13-game home court winning streak, 79-70, on Monday night at Kaplan Arena.
 
The Tribe (17-12, 11-5 CAA) used an 18-2 run spanning the end of the first half and start of the second to open up as much as a nine-point cushion in the final 20 minutes. UNCW (22-7, 12-4 CAA) responded down the stretch with a 17-2 run to pick up the victory.
 
Senior Gabe Dorsey led the Tribe with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range. With his five 3-pointers, he moved into second place on the Tribe's career 3-pointers made list, passing David Schneider '10. Caleb Dorsey tallied 13 points off the bench, hitting 3-of-6 from 3-point range.
 
UNCW started the game by hitting its first six shots, including back-to-back 3-pointers from Greedy Williams and Donovan Newby. The Seahawks lead reached 19-8 following a Nolan Hodge lay-up at the 15:33 mark.
 
W&M answered with an 11-2 run that started with back-to-back 3-pointers from junior Kyle Frazier.  A top of the key triple from Caleb Dorsey with 11:52 left closed the gap to 21-19.
 
The Seahawks pushed its lead back to eight points. Sean Moore scored on a lay-up and then found Noah Ross for a fast-break lay-up to extend the visitor's lead to 37-29 at 4:26 mark.
 
The Tribe used an 18-2 run spanning the end of the first half and start of the second to take its first lead.
 
The Green and Gold scored the final eight points of the first half to tie the game. Freshman Isaiah Mbeng found junior Kyle Pulliam for an and-1 lay-up, before dishing to graduate student Malachi Ndur for a 3-pointer. A pair of Pulliam free throws with 35 seconds remaining knotted the contest at 39 at the break.
 
W&M started the second half as hot, scoring 10 of the first 12 points. Gabe Dorsey hit a pair of 3-pointers during the stretch and Ndur added a dunk. A Chase Lowe putback stretched the Tribe lead to 49-41 just 2:33 into the final frame.
 
The Tribe advantage reached 52-43 on another Gabe Dorsey 3-pointer with 16:20 left. 

With W&M leading by six, 63-57, at 9:04 mark, UNCW flipped the game in its favor thanks to a 17-2 run. After a Newby 3-pointer, the Seahawks scored seven straight at the free throw line, including five from 7-footer Harlan Obioha. A pair of Khamari McGriff free throws at the 4:53 mark gave the visitors the lead for good at 66-65.
 
A Hodge 3-pointer followed by a McGriff putback with 1:40 remaining capped 10-straight points for the Seahawks to extend the lead to nine, 74-65.
 
UNCW finished the game at 49.2% (29-fo-59) from the field and connected on 16-of-20 (80%) at the free throw line. The Seahawks also had a 43-26 advantage on the glass, including 15 offensive rebounds that led to 20 second-chance points.
 
Obioha led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. McGriff tallied 14 points, while Newby and Hodge had 10 points apiece.
 
W&M shot 43.3% (26-of-60) overall and connected on 11-of-31 (35.5%) from 3-point range. W&M dished out 19 assists on its 26 made shots and only had seven turnovers.
 
Pulliam scored nine points off the bench, while Frazier had eight, including a pair of 3-pointers. Mbeng finished with a career-high seven assists, and Lowe tallied an eight-point, five-rebound, five-assist stat line on the night.
