Lax Falls at Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The William & Mary lacrosse team fell at Georgetown, 19-7, on Saturday afternoon.

The Tribe (1-2) trailed by just two, 6-4, late in the second quarter, but the Hoyas (2-2) held W&M to just three goals during the remainder of the contest en route to earning the non-conference victory.

Although GU raced out to a 3-0 lead, the Tribe responded with back-to-back goals by Taylor McCall and Kate Draddy late in the first quarter.

After another 3-0 run by the Hoyas, W&M answered again with scores by Draddy and McCall to narrow the margin to just two.

However, GU rattled off eight of the next nine goals and then closed the contest with a 6-1 run to secure the win.

Draddy led the Tribe with three points (2g, 1a) and a game-high eight draw controls, just two shy of her career high.

McCall found the back of the cage with both her shot attempts (the first goals of her career), while Anna Dawson also scored twice and Sydney Witwer (1g, 1a) and Paige Gilbert (2a) added two points apiece.

Georgetown outshot W&M, 33-22, and put 11 more shots on goal, 27-16.

The Hoyas also owned advantages in draw controls (17-12) and ground balls (13-12).

Both teams committed 10 turnovers apiece.

Hannah Bishop led Georgetown with 10 points (4g, 6a), while Emma Gebhardt and Gracie Driggs both posted hat tricks. Griggs added a team-high six draw controls.

W&M will return to action when it squares off against UMBC in a neutral site matchup at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va. on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
