Men's Tennis Sweeps Hampton in CAA Opener

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis won for the second time in as many matches, sweeping Hampton, 7-0, in the CAA opener on Wednesday night at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
 
How It Happened
- The Tribe (3-1) captured the doubles point of the for the second-straight match, winning at all three spots.
- Sophomore Oliver Hague and freshman Gur Trakhtenberg, the reigning CAA Team of the Week, remained undefeated at the top doubles post, topping Donte Armbrister and Aryan Arora, 6-2. The duo improved to 7-4 overall and 4-0 at No. 1.
- The senior duo of Sean Joseph and Alexander Karman clinched the point for the second consecutive match, upending Kevin Jorquera and Yanozie Amadike, 6-2, at No. 3.
- Freshman Raz Katz and sophomore Nikita Bortnichek rounded out the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory over Benedict Badza and Marko Stoilkovski at the No. 2 spot. It was the pair's first win together.
- Bortnichek and Karman quickly increased the Tribe lead to 3-0, dropping just three games each in victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Bortnichek won his seventh match of the season and improved to 2-1 on line four with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Marko Stoilkovski.
- Karman rolled to a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Aryan Arora. He won his eighth match of the year and upped his mark to 3-0 at No. 5.
- Katz clinched the CAA victory and won his third in a row at No. 6. The Tribe rookie defeated Kevin Jorquera, 6-4, 6-3, for his eighth singles win.
- Hague won his second match at No. 1, downing Donte Armbrister, 6-2, 6-3. He ran his singles ledger to 11-7.
- Trakhtenberg and Joseph posted wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, to round out the Tribe sweep. Trakhtenberg pushed his ledger to 11-6 overall and 2-1 at No. 2 with a 6-2, 7-6 (1) victory over Yanozie Amadike.
- At No. 3, Joseph rallied for a three-set win over Benedict Badza, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8. It was his ninth win of the year, moving his ledger to 2-1 on line three.
 
Up Next
The Tribe returns to action when it travels to the Northeast for a pair of matches against Ivy League competition. W&M heads to Yale on Friday, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m., before traveling to Brown on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m.
