WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After collectively recording a number of game-changing plays in the William & Mary football team's 37-7 victory against UAlbany, the entire Tribe team was selected as the
Stats Perform FCS National Special Teams Players of the Week.
A trio of Tribe standouts –
Josh Miller,
Stephon Hicks and
Xavier Dillard – blocked punts that resulted in safeties, and holder
Joey Tomasso found the end zone with a 5-yard touchdown run on a fake field goal.
Additionally, punter
Carter Boyd pinned UAlbany inside its own 20-yard line with three of his four punts, including two inside the 10 and one downed at the 1-yard line, while the Great Danes did not total any return yards on the Tribe's 10 kickoffs/punts. Placekicker
Keegan Shackford also made a 29-yard field goal and all four of his extra-point attempts.
The Tribe's three blocked punts and safeties were one shy of FCS records, while W&M now ranks tied for first nationally in blocked punts this season with five.
Individually, Hicks currently leads the nation with three blocked punts.
The Tribe will return to action when it plays at Campbell on Saturday at 2 p.m.
