Spiders Efficent Offense Outlasts Women's Hoops

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Richmond (2-1, 0-0 Atlantic 10) defeated William & Mary women's basketball (1-2, 0-0 CAA), 84-58, at Kaplan Arena on Wednesday night.

This contest marked the 118th meeting in the all-time series between the two teams, making it the second longest series in William & Mary program history.

W&M opened the game on a cold spell offensively, missing 15 of their 19 field goal attempts in the first quarter.

Cassidy Geddes provided a spark with two jumpers, including a key shot at 6:43 that tied the score at 6-6. Despite their efforts, the Spiders pulled ahead again, with a scoring burst that ended the quarter 17-10 in favor of the visitors.

W&M's momentum in the second frame was highlighted by a 3-pointer from Monet Dance at 7:43, narrowing the Spiders' lead to four.

However, Richmond responded with a strong offensive push, extending their advantage with efficient shooting and fast breaks. Despite a late surge by the Tribe, including a fast-break layup by Geddes at 1:50, the half ended with Richmond leading 44-24.

The Green and Gold shifted momentum in the third quarter with a series of 3-pointers from Geddes, who connected on shots at 8:50, 7:03, and 5:34. Mikeska played a crucial role, providing assists on two of those shots and closing the quarter with a fast-break layup at the buzzer that kept W&M in-touch, trailing 58-42.

The Tribe started the fourth quarter with an early basket by Natalie Fox at the 9:37, narrowing the deficit to 14. That is as close as the hosts would get however, with Richmond bolstering its lead down the stretch to win 84-58.

Geddes led the team with 24 points, converting on five triples and collecting three steals. Mikeska facilitated the offense with six assists and added six rebounds. Fox joined Geddes in double figures with 10, her third straight game in double figures to begin the season.

The Tribe will close out its early season homestand by hosting Old Dominion on Sunday. Tip is set for 1 p.m. on FloCollege
