WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary men's soccer fell to Col. of Charleston 3-1 on Sunday at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. Despite outshooting their opponent 19-9, the Tribe could not overcome a 3-1 deficit, with the Cougars' defense making six saves.
The first half began with a quick strike from the visitors, scoring off a corner to put CoC up 1-0. The Green and Gold responded with shots from
Sam Delgado and
Thor Sigurjonsson, but they failed to find the net.
Max Cooper's attempt near the end of the half was saved by the Cougars' keeper as the half concluded 1-0.
W&M pressed forward in the second half, creating numerous opportunities in the early minutes.
Webb Kosich, Delgado, and Cooper each attempted shots, but were unable to find the back of the net. Sigurjonsson's effort in the 54th minute was saved by the goalkeeper.
Despite these attempts, Charleston extended their lead with a goal in the 55th minute and another in the 80th minute.
William & Mary continued to fight, and
Damen Burney managed to break through with a goal in the 85th minute, assisted by
Noah Hiort-Wright. However, this late push was not enough to overcome the deficit. The game concluded with Charleston securing the win, 3-1.
In their regular season finale, the Tribe will travel to Elon, N.C., to face Elon on Saturday, Nov. 1. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
