WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary men's soccer and George Mason played to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.
The Tribe's defense held strong, allowing just one shot on goal, while
Karan Sobti recorded one save to secure the shutout. The match marked Sobti's first career clean sheet. W&M took 11 shots, with three on target, but were unable to convert any into goals.
The first half began with the Tribe setting the tone early, as
Michael DiOrio's attempt in the 9th minute hit the top woodwork. In fact, the Tribe's initial three shots of the game all struck the woodwork, as
Webb Kosich and
Diogo Branco both hit the frame again in quick succession around the 19th minute. Branco later forced a save from the Patriots' goalkeeper in the 23rd minute.
Despite the offensive pressure from the Green and Gold, the half ended scoreless.
W&M began the second half by maintaining their defensive structure, limiting Mason's offensive opportunities despite the opposition's corner kicks in the early stages.
Thor Sigurjonsson had a pair of shots for the Tribe that narrowly missed the target around the 54th and 56th minutes, indicating a sustained attacking effort from the home side.
Midway through the half, Sobti made a crucial save on a shot by Cristian Ramos, preserving the clean sheet for W&M.
The home team's attempts to break the deadlock continued with
Gabe Ruitenberg striking the woodwork, while
Beckham Harris forced a save from George Mason's goalkeeper late in the game. The match concluded with a scoreless draw, as both teams were unable to capitalize on their chances.
Branco led the Tribe with three shots, including one on goal.
Sam Delgado contributed with a shot on goal in the match. Sigurjonsson added two shots to the team's efforts.
