Women's Soccer Falls at UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. — William & Mary women's soccer (4-6-4, 2-2-2) fell to UNCW (9-3-2, 5-0-1) in a 4-1 defeat on the road at UNCW Soccer Stadium. 

UNCW scored twice in each half, maintaining their unbeaten conference record.

The first half commenced with William & Mary applying early pressure, as Ava Schultz took a shot just over four minutes into play, though it went high. 

W&M's Gwen Doughty made a crucial save in the 14th minute, maintaining a tight defense. However, UNCW broke the deadlock shortly after with a penalty kick goal.

Despite an offensive push that included shots from Ivey Crain and Mia Abbey, the Tribe could not find the net. 

UNCW extended their lead to 2-0 in the 24th minute. The Green and Gold continued to press forward, with Paige Seitz forcing a save in the 41st minute. The half concluded with W&M trailing 2-0, as they looked to regroup for the next half.

The second half began with UNCW extending their lead in the 51st minute, bringing the score to 3-0. 

William & Mary mounted a series of offensive efforts, with Lindsay Wilson and Ivey Crain both attempting shots shortly after, but they were unable to convert.

UNCW furthered their advantage with a goal in the 78th minute, making it 4-0. 

However, the Tribe responded quickly, as Sheridan Brummett scored in the 79th minute with an assist from Sophia Dallara, reducing the deficit to 4-1. Play concluded with the score unchanged, as UNCW earned a home win.

In goal, Doughty recorded two saves while facing eight shots, allowing four goals during her time on the field.

Looking ahead, the William & Mary soccer team will host Northeastern on October 16, with action kicking off at 7 p.m. at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field in Williamsburg, Va.
