STONY BROOK, N.Y.—The William & Mary women's basketball team couldn't battle back from Stony Brook runs at the start and the end of the game, falling to the Seawolves 66-48 on Long Island.
Bella Nascimento led the W&M (4-10, 1-2 CAA) with 14 points for her 11
th double digit performance of the year.
Cassidy Geddes joined her in double figures with 10.
After
Jana Sallman made a layup Stony Brook (7-7, 1-2 CAA) went on their first run of the night, scoring the next nine points to make it 9-2 with 6:13 on the clock.
Natalie Fox later made a layup to make it 9-6, but the Seawolves would use a 9-2 run to close the frame, leading 18-8 after one.
The teams would trade buckets to start the second with Nascimento hitting back-to-back jumpers to cut it to 22-14 with 6:08 remaining in the half.
SBU responded by scoring eight straight before Nascimento halted the run with her first of three triples on the evening, but the hosts would lead 32-18 at the break.
The Seawolves kept their foot down to begin the third, pushing their advantage to 42-23 four minutes into the frame. W&M did their best to battle back however, with
Anahi-Lee Cauley scoring six points in the back half of the third. The last of those buckets would make it 46-34 before SBU added a late score to lead by 13 at quarter's end.
Early in the fourth a Nascimento 3-pointer and a
Kayla Rolph bucket cut it to 54-43, but that is as close as they would get, falling 66-48.
