Career Efforts From Nascimento and Geddes Lead Women's Basketball Past Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.— The William & Mary women's basketball team used an explosive offensive performance to down Monmouth 83-74 in New Jersey on Sunday afternoon.

Bella Nascimento and Cassidy Geddes posted 27 and 26 respectively, both career-highs, to lead four Tribe players in double figures. 15 of Geddes' 26 came in the fourth quarter to help salt the game away while shooting 9-for-15 on the afternoon. Nascimento was 10-for-18 from the floor.

After falling behind 3-2 early the Tribe kickstarted their offense with multiple buckets from Anahi-Lee Cauely and Nascimento. Natalie Fox capped the run with a layup to make it 14-7 Tribe at the 2:27 mark.

Nascimento added three more points before the quarter's end as W&M (5-10, 2-2 CAA) led 17-12 after 10 minutes.

The two teams traded buckets to begin the second frame, with the Hawks eventually tying the game 24-24 at the 6:07 mark.

Kayla Rolph responded with a 3-pointer followed by a Cauley layup to put the Tribe back up five. Nascimento added two more buckets towards the end of the half to fend off the Hawks and give W&M a 35-34 lead at the break.

The Tribe started the third quarter with a Geddes jumper and a Nascimento triple, but Monmouth (7-8, 2-2 CAA) would respond to take their first lead since it was 3-2, at 41-40, with 6:40 to go.

Four straight from Rolph, via a 3-pointer and a free throw, would put W&M back in the lead before Monet Dance got in the act from behind the arc making it 50-45.

After Monmouth pulled within one, Geddes hit her first triple of the afternoon to end the quarter up 55-51 and set herself up for a monster fourth quarter performance.

The hosts went on a quick 5-0 run to grab the lead in the fourth before Geddes and Nascimento hit a 3-pointer and layup to put the Tribe back up 60-56 with 7:27 to play.

From there the teams would trade buckets, with Cauley picking up a pair to make it 68-60. Geddes would take things over for the remaining 3:30, scoring nine of the Tribe's final 15 points.

W&M would shoot 10-for-10 from the line over the final stretch, putting away an 83-74 bounce-back victory on the road.

Cauley and Rolph were the other two to join Nascimento and Geddes in double figures with 12 and 10 respectively, marking the first time this season that the Tribe had four players with 10-plus points.

The last time W&M had two 20-point performances in the same game was when Nascimento and Nylah Young had 24 and 23 last season against Stony Brook.

W&M posted their most efficient offensive effort of the season, shooting 31-for-65 from the floor while also making seven of their last 12 3-point attempts after starting 0-for-7. The Tribe was 14-of-16 from the line and won the rebound battle 33-32.
