WILLIAMSBURG, Va.— The William & Mary women's soccer team saw their four-game win streak snapped by Princeton Sunday afternoon at Martin Family Stadium, 2-0. The Tigers used a goal in each half to earn the road win.
The first shots on goal in the contest belonged to the visiting Tigers, but
Jazzy Lorenz was up to the task in net, making saves in the 7
th and 13
th minute to keep the game scoreless.
Molly Widderich placed the first shot on frame after being on the receiving end of a ball from
Kenley Campbell in the 16
th minute, but the chance was saved by the Tiger keeper.
W&M (4-3-0) used that momentum to generate a couple close calls moments later.
Widderich narrowly missed the left post from the top of the 18-yard box off a
Lindsay Wilson corner, before
Ivey Crain had a chance saved by the Princeton goalie to keep it 0-0 in the 20
th minute.
Princeton, who entered the match 2-1-1 with wins over Miami (Fla.) and Seton Hall, took a 1-0 lead in the 27
th minute off a long strike from just outside the box.
The rest of the half took place mainly in the midfield as the Tigers headed to halftime with the lead.
Shots after 45 minutes were tied 6-6.
Crain made a bid to equalize for the Tribe in the 47
th minute, but the attempt missed high and wide. She had another shot that was off target in the 67
th minute, while
Abby Mills had a long shot saved two minutes later, as the Tigers maintained their 1-0 lead.
W&M's best chance to score came in the 78
th minute with
Leah Iglesias streaking down the middle of the field. The senior fired a shot from straight on that had plenty of promise, but the Tiger netminder just got enough of the ball to steer it wide.
Princeton would add an insurance goal off a set piece in the 84
th minute to grab a 2-0 road win.
The final shot tally was 11-9 in favor of the Tribe, while Lorenz made three saves on the afternoon for W&M.
