WILLIAMSBURG, Va.— William & Mary women's soccer saw their three-game win streak, and shutout streak, halted on Thursday night, falling to Monmouth 3-0 in West Long Branch, N.J.
The host Hawks took the first three shots of the game, having two blocked and another off target, before
Nora Green-Orset took the Tribe's first shot in the 13
th minute missing wide.
Molly Widderich and
Ivey Crain took chances just a minute apart. Widderich's try was saved and Crain's was off target as the Tribe tried to flip momentum towards the halfway mark of the first half.
The ball mostly stayed in the midfield for the remainder of the half, but
Jazzy Lorenz was called on to make a pair of saves in the 29
th and 33
rd minutes to keep the match scoreless going into the halftime break.
Shots favored the Hawks after 45 minutes, 12-3. Monmouth also racked up eight corners to the Tribe's zero.
Lorenz made another stop for W&M to keep the game knotted 0-0 in the 50
th minute, but the Hawks opened the scoring in the 56
th minute. The Monmouth goal ended a streak of 332 minutes without a goal allowed for the Tribe.
Mia Suchora attempted to tie equalize things in the 66
th minute for W&M but had her shot stopped by the Hawk keeper.
Monmouth expanded their lead to 2-0 in the 72
nd minute.
The last shot of the evening for the Tribe came from
Leah Iglesias in the 79
th minute, but her shot, like Suchora's was saved. Monmouth added a goal in the 83
rd minute to pick up a 3-0 win and end the Tribe's win-streak at three games.
The final shot tally read 21-7 in favor of the home Hawks. Lorenz made four saves on the night.
