Baseball Falls to Late Campbell Rally in Series Opener

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary baseball (29-23, 12-13 CAA) dropped the opening game of its final regular season series Thursday at Campbell (30-21, 11-14 CAA), 9-5.

Tied at five in the seventh inning, the Fighting Camels added four unanswered runs to take the first game of the series.

With a pair of hits and a pair of RBI, Joe Delossantos led the offensive charge for the Tribe and Henry Jackson extended his hitting streak to five games.

Ben Parker got things started for the Tribe, ripping a first-pitch double down the right line and advancing to third on a balk. Delossantos drove in the first run of the contest with a hit down the line of his own.

Zack Potts opened his outing with two scoreless innings, tallying three strikeouts in three frames to start. The righty rolled a 1-4-3 double play to end the first inning and stranded two on base to hang a zero in the second.

The Camels put up a crooked numbers in the third and fifth, building a 4-1 lead through five innings.

In a déjà vu moment, Delossantos followed a first-pitch double with an RBI single once again. Freshman shortstop Josiah Seguin pulled a leadoff double in the sixth inning, coming around to score the Tribe's second run.

Reed Interdonato entered the game in the bottom of the sixth, allowing one inherited runner to score, but ending the damage there. The righty struck out the side swinging, ending the frame with a pair of back-to-back punchouts.

W&M tied up the game in the seventh, 5-5, scoring three runs. Nate Goranson was hit by his 14th pitch of the year and his 6th in the last five games to lead off the inning. Luca Trigiani followed with a double to right.

Trey Christman drove Goranson home while he drew a Camels error to get on base. Trigiani scored on a wild pitch which moved Christman along and a Seguin groundout advanced the freshman to third base.

Parker added an RBI to his hit and run on the day with a sacrifice fly, driving in the Tribe's final run of the contest as they knotted the score at 5-5.

The Camels added four more in the final pair of innings, working their score up to 9-5 for the final of the evening.

The Tribe will return to action Friday at Jim Perry Stadium as it continues to fight for a spot in the CAA Championships.
