Baseball Concludes Home Schedule with CAA Series-Clinching Victory

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary baseball (29-22, 12-12 CAA) earned a series-clinching victory in Sunday's rubber match against Towson (14-37, 4-18 CAA), bouncing back from Saturday's contest with a 9-3 win.

The offensive charge was led by the top of the order. Leadoff man Henry Jackson came around to score all three times he reached base, while the second, third and cleanup hitters each tallied multiple hits and multiple RBI on the afternoon.

Ben Parker led the Tribe with three hits, including a late bases-clearing double, three RBI and a pair of runs, in addition to a stolen base.

Jackson and Christian Rush each extended their hitting streaks to five games, while Anthony Greco's first-inning homme run marked his ninth-straight game reaching base.

After breaking the program record in team strikeouts in Friday night's 16-strikeout performance, the Tribe pitching staff passed another milestone marker, eclipsing the 500-strikeout mark for the first time in program history.

Three pitchers combined to fan 10 Tigers in the contest as starter Owen Pierce and Alex Markus each tallied four, while Travis Garnett added a pair.

The trio allowed just two earned runs in the contest, three total, and led the way for the W&M offense to set the pace for the game early.

Pierce made just his second start of the season, going 3.2 innings with four hits and an earned and unearned run. Garnett earned his third win of the year, improving to 3-0, allowing a pair of hits and one run in his 2.2 innings of work.

Markus earned his first save in the Green & Gold after entering the game with bases loaded and the winning run at the plate in the seventh. He allowed one inherited runner to score, but shut down the Tigers with a pair of strikeouts to work out of the jam. He tossed a pair more scoreless innings to close on the win.

The Tribe got off to a loud start as Jackson belted a double to right-centerfield on the second pitch of the game. Scoring on a single by Delossantos' team-leading 55th RBI, the Tribe got on the board first. Greco barreled a first-inning home run to tack on two more for the Tribe.

The Tigers scattered three runs throughout the remainder of the contest, scratching across two in the second and fourth innings before the Tribe answered with a pair of their own, and adding their final run in the seventh on an RBI base on balls.

In another multi-run inning, the Tribe scored two in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead. Jackson was hit by a pitch and Parker doubled to put runners on second and third. Back-to-back wild pitches followed a Tigers pitching change and the pair were able to score to take a 5-2 lead.

W&M had a final offensive burst in the eighth inning. Freebies loaded the bases as Luca Trigiani and Jackson drew walks, split by a Trey Christman hit by pitch.

Parker came to the plate with three on and one out, lining a 1-1 pitch up the left line to clear the bases. His game-leading three RBI added insurance runs to extend the Tribe lead to 8-3.

Delossantos followed suit with a double of his own, driving in his fellow outfielder for the final run of the afternoon.

Two quick outs began the ninth before the Tigers managed one final baserunner. Markus closed out the Tribe's victory with his fourth strikeout of the day, getting the called final strike to earn the save.

The Tribe improves to an even 12-12 in conference play, rising to fifth in the league with the tiebreaker over sixth-place Stony Brook.
