Charleston Takes Series Finale Over Baseball

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – William & Mary baseball (25-15, 8-7 CAA) falls to host Charleston (28-10, 12-3 CAA) in the final game of the series, 3-0.

A day earlier, the Cougars forced the Tribe's first series loss of the 2024 season with a 4-0 shutout, and the Tribe couldn't avoid the sweep Sunday.

First out of the bullpen, Travis Garnett had a strong performance in the middle innings to hold the Cougars' lead to a pair. He set a career high in strikeouts with six, giving up just a pair of hits over a career-long 3.0 innings. He retired all three Cougars by strikeout in his first inning of work and finished his outing with a called strikeout for a 1-2-3 fifth inning.

Owen Pierce faced the minimum in the eighth inning, posting his ninth scoreless appearance of the season.

Belting his first triple of the year and the second of his career, Nate Goranson put up a two-hit game in the Tribe's Sunday contest. Goranson's first hit of the day also put a runner on third, but the Tribe came up short of driving in the run.

Luca Trigiani also had a pair of hits, including his seventh double of the year. Outfielder Ben Parker provided the Tribe's remaining hit, doubling down the left line in the first inning.

Bringing the Green & Gold's base on balls tally to 260 on the season, Trey Christman, Christian Rush and Joe Delossantos all drew walks to find their way on base. This marks the fifth-most in a single season in W&M history.

Carter Lovasz made just the sixth start of his career and his first of the season. The righty gave up a pair of runs, only one of which was earned, in his 2.0 innings. He was ultimately credited with the loss in the contest, falling to 1-4 on the year.

Despite only three runs allowed by the staff, the Tribe was unable to provide run support in the series finale, falling in a combined shutout by a trio of Charleston arms.
