The Tribe struggled on the mound early, uncharacteristic of the staff which entered the contest with the 14
th-best ERA in the country.
Scratching runs across in the opening two innings, the Keydets pulled into a commanding lead, touting a 7-3 advantage through three innings.
Attempting to chip away at the early lead, the leadoff hitter reached for the Tribe in each of the first three frames, twice coming around to score. Jackson's walk to open the second inning allowed him to cross the plate with W&M's first run of the night on a pinch-hit sacrifice fly from
Derek Holmes.
The third inning saw a Parker single to left field, before Delossantos pulled his 10
th home run of the year 369 feet off the top of the scoreboard of neighboring Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. Attempting to close in on the Keydets, the homer brought the deficit to four.
VMI continued to press, adding five runs over the fourth and fifth innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, outfielder duo of Parker and Delossantos belted back-to-back stand-up doubles to left field as the former scored the Tribe's fourth run. Delossantos' three-RBI game was the third of its kind and his team-leading 12
th multi-RBI game of the season.
Trigiani's home run sailed over the left-centerfield wall for the lone run in the sixth inning, adding the Tribe's final run of the night and bringing the score to 12-5.
Despite W&M turning its second double play of the night to erase a leadoff walk in the seventh, the Keydets managed their final pair of runs in the frame.
With the deciding lead taken early in the game,
Alex Markus was credited with the loss in the contest.
Lippman entered the game in the eighth, tossing a perfect frame to open his outing. Tying his season-high two strikeouts, the righty retired the leadoff hitter in each of his innings by the punchout.
