MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – William & Mary baseball's (25-14, 8-6 CAA) impressive streak of eight consecutive weekend series victories came to an end Saturday as Charleston (27-10, 11-3 CAA) clinched the conference weekend with a 4-0 victory.
The Tribe started CAA play with four-straight winning weekends but fell short of the offensive comeback needed to support grad student
Zack Potts' start on the mound.
Potts allowed just a pair of runs in his outing, both crossing in the first inning for Charleston. He followed the first frame with six-straight scoreless innings, two of them perfect, in a season-long 7.0-inning performance.
The righty fanned six Cougars, just one short of meeting his season high, and allowed seven hits. Stranding six Cougars on base and twice ending an inning with a strikeout, he kept the Tribe within two runs of the host team through the seventh inning.
Credited with the loss in the contest, Potts fell to 5-3 on the year.
Junior
Lucas Carmichael tied his season-high hitting streak of eight games as he belted a single to right center to lead off the sixth inning.
Luca Trigiani extended his own hitting streak to four games.
Centerfielder
Ben Parker drew his 36
th walk of the year, leading the Tribe and landing a single walk away from entering the all-time W&M single-season leaderboard, which has five players tied at 13
th-most in a single season with 37.
Due to the threat of inclement weather, the series finale against the Cougars on Sunday, April 21, has been shifted up one hour to a noon first pitch. The Tribe will look to avoid the weekend sweep.
