Greco Homers Twice, Tribe Earns Road Win at Richmond

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – While Nate Knowles, Carter Lovasz and Owen Pierce held the Richmond hitters at bay, William & Mary baseball's offense erupted for double digits in the Tribe's 10-1 victory over the Spiders Tuesday.

After going an impressive 4-for-10 in his first weekend of collegiate baseball, true freshman Anthony Greco doubled his hit total in one game, going 4-5 with 6 RBI, including a 2-run homer and a grand slam.

The Tribe improves to 3-1 on the year with the win, while the Spiders fall to 0-5.

Knowles followed his stellar opening-weekend start with a 3.0 inning, no-hit outing against the Spiders to maintain his perfect ERA. Not allowing a hit, he brought his opponent average on the season to .091 over his two appearances. He retired the side in order in the second inning with only eight pitches.

Lucas Carmichael, Ben Parker and Joe Delossantos loaded the bases in the top of the third inning and Jerry Barnes III was hit by his sixth pitch in just four games, this time earning an RBI to open the scoring in the game.

Lovasz led off his appearance with a 1-2-3 inning as he went 3.0 frames and allowed only one hit and a one run to score, earning his first victory of the season.

A game which was shaping up to be a pitcher's duel through the fifth frame was no match for Greco as he launched the first home run of his career down the right field line, scoring Barnes who was on base following a single.

Singling to lead off the seventh inning, Corey Adams got on by the way of a single to left field. Joe Delossantos and Barnes drew back-to-back walks to load the bases for Greco.

Because his one homer and a pair of RBI needed some company, Greco blasted a two-out, no-doubt grand slam 356 feet to shatter the game open, giving the Tribe a 7-1 lead. Still in his first week of college ball, Greco became only the 31st player in Tribe history to record two home runs in a single game.

Graduate transfer Ben Parker took a full-count pitch off the opposite-field wall to reach third for his first triple in the Green & Gold and Delossantos followed with an RBI double.  Barnes earned both his second hit and second RBI of the day as he belted one down the left field line to score Delossantos.

Running up the Tribe's score to the double digits, freshman Trey Christman reached on a fielder's choice to allow Christian Rush to score W&M's final run of the day, taking a 10-1 lead.

Pierce shut the door on the Tribe's third win of the season, earning a save in his second scoreless outing. Throwing 76% strikes, Pierce allowed only a pair of baserunners over 3.0 innings.
