RICHMOND, Va. – After helping the William & Mary football team earn a 22-12 victory against Bryant on Saturday at Zable Stadium, sophomore punt returner
Carson Jenkins was selected as the
CAA Special Teams Player of the Week.
Highlighting Jenkins' outstanding performance was a 90-yard punt return for a touchdown midway through the second quarter that gave W&M a 15-0 advantage. The electric touchdown is the longest punt return in the FCS this season and marked the first time a Tribe player returned a punt for a score since 2015 (DeVonte Dedmon).
Jenkins also posted a 19-yard punt return and finished the contest with 109 punt return yards, which is the most by a W&M player dating back through at least 2002 (game-by-game return records are not available prior to 2002).
The Gate City, Va., native's season stats include six punt returns for 159 yards with a touchdown.
W&M will conclude its regular season slate at No. 7/11 Richmond when the longtime rivals vie for the Capital Cup on Saturday at noon. It will mark the 135th meeting in the series.
