Tribe Takes Care of Hampton in Three Sets

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The William & Mary volleyball team cruised to their third straight victory on Friday, taking down Hampton 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-13) in CAA action at the Kaplan Arena.

The Tribe (11-15, 7-10 CAA) saw a balanced effort offensively. Audrey Brcka led the attack with 12 kills. Maddie Meyers followed with nine kills and 10 digs, while Nicole Smith had seven kills.

Bella Easton recorded 19 assists in the win and Amy Schwem had 17 helpers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The play was largely even in the first set until the 6-6 point. W&M ripped off a 10-2 run to take command, highlighted by three kills from Brcka. The sophomore outside hitter had four kills total in the opener as the Tribe won easily 25-16.

The home team had to handle some adversity in set two. The Tribe led at 17-10 following back-to-back kills by Meyers, as the senior had four kills in a five-point stretch. After leading 18-12, Hampton went on a 5-0 run to whittle the advantage to one.

Two straight kills from Smith got the Tribe back in their groove as the lead got back to 22-17. W&M finished off the 25-19 set victory with another kill by Smith and a block by Sabrina Malcolm.

William & Mary corrected some sloppy play from the previous stanza, getting out to an 11-5 lead in the third set. Brcka would add four more kills in the frame while Meyers and Malcolm both had service aces. The action went back and forth before the Tribe sealed the deal with two straight points courtesy of attack errors by the Pirates. W&M won the set 25-13.
