Tribe Caps Off Senior Day with 3-0 Win Over Hampton

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — In the final match of the 2024 campaign, the William & Mary volleyball team went out on a dominant note as they defeated Hampton 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-8) in CAA action on Sunday afternoon at the Kaplan Arena.

The Tribe (12-15, 8-10 CAA) ended the regular season on a four-game winning streak, their longest since 2022, and their longest conference win streak since 2013.

Seniors Maddie Meyers and Eleanor Stothoff paced W&M with nine kills apiece while Amy Schwem racked up 21 assists. Stothoff was also strong defensively, recording six block assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tribe opened the first set strong, racing out to an 11-3 lead after consecutive service aces from Bella Easton. A 6-1 run in the middle portion of the stanza extended the lead to 19-7 in favor of W&M.

Hampton did make things interesting with a 7-1 spurt late in the set, but a kill by Smith returned momentum to the Green & Gold as the Tribe hung on to win 25-18.

The Tribe brought out the defense in set two, scoring the first three points with blocks from Stothoff, Sabrina Malcolm, and Ryann Love. W&M took advantage of eight attack errors by the Pirates. Meyers had a string of three straight kills for the home team, the last of which ballooned the lead to 16-11.

From there, Hampton mounted a spirited comeback as they whittled the deficit to 18-16. But a big spike from Katherine Arnason righted the ship and W&M scored seven of the final nine points to win 25-18.

William & Mary saved their best for last in third. After surrendering the first point, the Tribe posted separate runs of 5-0 and 8-0 to take a 13-2 lead. Malcolm had back-to-back service aces to clampen the advantage. The two teams battled back and forth before a 5-0 W&M spurt sealed the deal. On match point, Amber Jarecki-Meyers netted the final kill for a 25-8 victory.
