HOW IT HAPPENED
W&M took control in the first. With the score 12-10 in favor of the Tribe, a kill from Arnason sparked a 7-0 run that gave the visitors some separation. The Tribe did not relinquish, getting a key stuff from Meyers and Love down the stretch as they went on to take the opener 25-17.
Elon (11-16, 5-11 CAA) struck back in set two. After W&M went ahead 5-1, the Phoenix dominated thereafter, scoring 16 of the next 22 points to take a 17-11 advantage. The Tribe got as close as two points at the 23-21 mark, but an attack error on set point sealed their fate as they lost the set 25-21.
After the intermission, William & Mary locked in with an 8-2 opening run. Brcka was a catalyst as the sophomore had four kills in the stanza. W&M took the set by a decisive 25-16 final.
In similar fashion to the previous set, the Tribe struck first with a 4-0 run to begin the fourth set. Schwem registered two key service aces before a pair of Elon attack errors made it a 7-1 Tribe advantage.
Arnason saved her best for last as her teammate Schwem teed her up for a late kill that gave W&M a 21-13 lead. The Tribe would go on to win the set 25-15.
