WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary volleyball team opened the weekend in victorious fashion, taking down UNC Wilmington 3-1 (25-11, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23) in CAA action on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Arena.
The victory marked the fourth straight home victory for the Tribe (8-12, 4-7 CAA).
Audrey Brcka led the way offensively, racking up 16 kills.
Katherine Arnason chipped in 14 kills while
Nicole Smith added 12. Setter
Amy Schwem added 21 assists for the day. She is now 19 assists away from recording her 2,000th career helper.
The Tribe got off to a strong start in the opening set, winning 25-11. After UNC Wilmington (5-13, 2-9) led 7-6 early, the home team reeled off 19 of the next 24 points to take the match. Brcka had four kills in the opener.
When the Seahawks tied the match following a set two victory, W&M responded with a narrow 25-21 win in the third stanza.
Maddie Meyers had a pair of kills, part of nine on the day for the fifth-year senior.
On the defensive end, Schwem and
Lindsay Kahren both tallied 19 digs.
Olivia Esposito was active on the net, recording nine total blocks including three solo.
The fourth set was evenly contested, with neither side gaining more than a four-point advantage. After falling behind 9-5, the Tribe went on a 7-1 run, bookended by a service ace from Kahren.
William & Mary briefly trailed at 18-17, but a strong finish that included three kills from Brcka helped lift them to a 25-21 victory.
