BUIES CREEK, N.C.— The William & Mary women's soccer team outshot Campbell 13-7 on Sunday afternoon, but ultimately fell 2-0 in Buies Creek, N.C.
Early action saw the host Camels push on the attack.
Morgan Wood, making her third start of the season in goal for W&M, made a pair of sharp saves in the first 10 minutes to keep the match scoreless.
Mia Suchora attempted the first shot of the afternoon for W&M, but her try wound up off target in the 17
th minute. That sparked a Campbell counterattack, leading to a Camels goal in the 18
th minute to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
Ivey Crain looked to equalize in the 20
th minute for the Tribe but missed her shot high from the top of the 18-yard box.
Teammates
Leah Iglesias and
Gabriella Kurtas also took a crack at tying the game at one over the next five minutes, but had their shots saved and miss the target respectively.
Ultimately the Camels would take their 1-0 lead to the halftime break despite the Tribe holding a 5-3 advantage in the shot column.
Crain and Suchora attempted to jumpstart the Tribe attack early in the second half but were unable to steer their shots on frame.
Campbell was able to add an insurance goal in the 58
th minute to make it a 2-0 game.
The Tribe attack was able to generate some chances to mount a comeback but couldn't find the back of the net to cut into the Camels lead.
Both Iglesias and Crain had shots that were saved down the stretch as the final scoreline remained 2-0 in favor of the hosts.
Wood made a pair of saves for the Tribe and was replaced in goal by
Jazzy Lorenz at halftime.
