TRIBE NOTES
Last Time Out
Two first half goals ended up being enough for, at the time, No. 17 Elon on Saturday to earn a 2-1 win over the Tribe. The Phoenix scored in the 28
th minute and then again in the 42
nd minute to take a 2-0 lead to the halftime break. After some close calls early in the half and eventually were rewarded with a goal in the 61
st minute off a goal from
Aidan Morrison. The goal was the second of the year for the Tribe sophomore. The comeback effort fell short for W&M despite holding a 9-7 advantage in the second half in shots as the Tribe dropped to 2-2-0 in conference play.
Up for a Challenge
With George Mason making an appearance in the latest national polls, three of the Tribe's six losses are against currently ranked teams. The visit to Elon was W&M's third crack at a ranked opponent this season, having already faced Hofstra and Penn while they were ranked. North Carolina came in at seventh in the polls this week ahead of their Tuesday visit to Martin Family Stadium, meaning W&M will play a minimum of four ranked games this season, their most since 2018.
NC State spent time in the polls earlier this season and will come to Martin Family Stadium later this month, meaning that the Tribe's overall schedule features six teams who have spent time ranked this year.
Spreading the Wealth
Aidan Morrison's goal against Elon made him the fourth Tribe player to have multiple scores this season. Through 10 matches the Tribe have had eight different goal scorers on their 14 goals.
Trust in Ryan
Ryan Eapen has performed well for the Tribe in net during his first collegiate season. Coming off of his redshirt year, Eapen currently ranks second in the CAA in saves per game with 4.25 and third in save percentage (.810) through the first eight starts of his career.
Scouting the Hawks and the Tar Heels
Monmouth comes to Williamsburg on Saturday with a knack for getting results so far this season. The Hawks own an overall record of 5-1-5 with a 2-0-3 record in CAA action. Their nine points have them tied for second in the conference standings despite just two wins in five matches.
Ranked as high as No. 3 nationally this season, the Tar Heels enter the week 7-1-3 on the year. They will take on Notre Dame on Friday evening before traveling to Williamsburg on Tuesday. UNC got the better of another CAA school their last time out, beating Charleston 3-0 Tuesday. Their lone loss of the year came against Clemson in a 3-2 decision.
History with the Hawks and the Tar Heels
With Monmouth having just recently joined the CAA, this will be only the second meeting between the two sides in conference action. Overall, the Tribe holds a 2-1-0 advantage over the Hawks in three meetings. The lone win for Monmouth came at a neutral site in 2011.
UNC and W&M will meet for the 22
nd time on Tuesday. This will mark the third straight year the two will play each other after a scoreless draw a year ago in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels hold the overall advantage in the series 16-2-3. The two Tribe victories came in 2013 on the road and 1996 at home.
