WILLIAMSBURG, Va.— William & Mary women's soccer fought conference foe Campbell to a 2-2 draw on Thursday night at Martin Family Stadium.
The Tribe pushed their unbeaten streak to 10, their longest ever to start a season.
A crowd of over 1,000 was treated to action right out of the gate, with the Camels controlling early possession.
Their efforts were rewarded just four minutes in, when they were given a corner that led to a header-goal, putting them up 1-0.
The Tribe seemed poised to respond, flipping possession in their favor. Their first quality chance wouldn't come until the 33
rd minute when Elania Longjohn broke free towards goal, but her shot missed just wide.
William & Mary (5-0-5, 2-0-2) used that momentum to propel them to an equalizer moments later when they were awarded a penalty kick.
Kenna Zier stepped up and calmly buried the chance in the right side of the goal to make it 1-1 in the 35
th minute.
The last 10 minutes of the half were uneventful as the match went to the break level at one.
When the second half began the Tribe brought plenty of energy, taking the first eight shots of the frame.
In the 52
nd minute
Mia Suchora and
Leah Iglesias each put shots on-frame that required outstanding saves from Campbell's goalie. The second save led to a corner that once again yielded a chance for Iglesias, but she missed just high, and we stayed tied at one.
13 minutes later the Tribe gave the large home crowd something to cheer about when Suchora danced around a defender and played a ball down the left side to
Madison Moon. Moon took the pass in stride and played a cross into the box that found Longjohn for what may have been the Tribe's most picturesque goal of the year.
The tally was Longjohn's first of the season and put the Green and Gold up 2-1 with 21 minutes remaining.
Campbell (2-4-4, 0-2-3) was undeterred, however, and secured an equalizer in the 80
th minute that sent the game destined for a draw.
Shots favored the Tribe 17-6 overall and 10-4 in the second half.
Zoe Doughty picked up one save on Campbell's three shots on goal, while W&M placed eight shots on-frame.
