Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Goal Pushes Panthers Past Men's Soccer

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—William & Mary (2-5-1) men's soccer fought off a ferocious High Point (3-1-2) attack until the 86th minute, allowing a goal and falling to the Panthers 1-0 on Tuesday.

The non-conference match was the last of a three game homestand for the Tribe.

The first half of the game was a back-and-forth affair, with the Green and Gold getting their first chance a little over 10 minutes in.

Evan Rabush made a run into the box and fired off a shot from 10 yards out, but the attempt sailed just high over the crossbar.

As the opening half wound down the Tribe earned a corner in the 38th minute and tried to break the tie. Ian Krajna played the ball in, and Merlin Luke-Miny skied above the crowd but couldn't steer his header on target.

The Panthers applied some pressure, but only collected one shot on-frame in the opening half that was saved by Cole McNally. At the half the Panthers had five shots to W&M's three.

As the second half began the High Point attack ramped up, outshooting the Tribe 10-4 in the frame.

Despite not as many chances, William & Mary had an opportunity to strike first when Gabe Ruitenberg had a shot saved in the 62nd minute. McNally did his best to keep the Panthers off the board with saves in the 75th and 79th minute.

Eventually, HPU was able to crack the code of the Tribe backline, scoring in the 86th minute. The Tribe had close calls to tie in the 90th minute via Ethan Prawidlo and Luke-Miny, but their shots were saved and high respectively ending the game 1-0.

The final shot total was 15-7 in favor of High Point. The Panthers had four shots on goal compared to two for W&M.
