Men's Soccer Falls to ODU Despite Dominating Shot Total

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.— Even with a 17-6 shot total in their favor, the William & Mary men's soccer team couldn't break through on Tuesday night, falling to Old Dominion at Martin Family Stadium, 1-0.

The Commonwealth matchup carried intensity from the get-go with plenty of physicality. Both teams played evenly in the first 20 minutes with neither side generating any prime chances.

The Monarchs converted in the 36th minute off a corner, and it turns out that's all they would need, heading to the half up 1-0.

Shots in the opening 45 minutes were essentially even, as the Tribe carried a narrow 5-4 advantage.

The Green and Gold turned the offensive pressure to a different level in the second half, constantly keeping the ball in the attacking half. Shots in the second 45 favored the Tribe 12-2, but the issue seemed to be getting quality chances on net. Only six of W&M's 17 shots were on-frame, as the Monarchs bent but didn't break to secure a 1-0 win.

Evan Rabush and Dylan Middlebrook both tried to equalize in the final ten minutes, getting shots on the net, but both were saved.

Diogo Branco took five shots on the evening for the Tribe, while Rabush attempted four. No W&M player recorded multiple shots on goal in the game, and it was the first time this season the Tribe has been shutout.

The Monarchs got their second win of the year despite picking up four yellow cards, and having 14 fouls called on them, while the Tribe got whistled for six.

Cole McNally recorded four saves for William & Mary.
