WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—Aidan Morrison and
Lucas Caldas provided a pair of goals for William & Mary (1-2-0) men's soccer on Thursday afternoon, but the Tribe ultimately fell to No. 19 New Hampshire (2-0-1) 4-2 at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.
Both sides wasted no time getting the action going in the non-conference match, with the visiting Wildcats scoring in the 6
th minute.
The Tribe quickly answered five minutes later when
Daniel Salom played a cross in from the left side. The ball deflected off the UNH keeper and Morrison swiftly tapped the ball in to tie the match at one.
The 11
th minute goal served as the first goal in Morrison's college career after picking up his first assist Monday against Coastal Carolina.
The nationally ranked Wildcats were able to score in the 19
th minute and 38
th, via penalty kick, to give themselves a 3-1 halftime edge.
After a physical opening half, the aggression went up a notch on both sides in the final 45 minutes. In total there were eight yellow cards handed out in the match, six to W&M and two to UNH.
Nine minutes into the second half the Wildcats were able to pick up where they left off, tacking on an extra insurance goal. The Tribe showed a valiant effort for the remainder of the match in attempt to generate chances against a solid UNH back line.
Their efforts were rewarded in the 76
th minute when
Alfredo Bozalongo put a free kick attempt on-frame from just outside the 18. After an initial save was made, Caldas found himself in perfect position to score off the rebound and make it 4-2, the eventual final score.
The tally for Caldas was his second in as many games after he scored the Tribe's goal on Monday at Coastal Carolina.
Cole McNally made his third consecutive start of the season in goal for W&M. He made four saves on the afternoon for the Tribe including a couple of diving efforts in the second half.
The Wildcats outshot William & Mary by a total of 16-5.
