Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

After Early Fireworks, Men's Soccer Draws Longwood, 1-1

FARMVILLE, Va.— William & Mary (1-2-1) men's soccer battled to an evenly-matched 1-1 draw at Longwood (2-0-1) on Thursday evening. The game served as the final tune-up for the Tribe prior to CAA conference play beginning Saturday.

Saying the opening minutes of the contest were filled with fireworks is an understatement, as the Lancers scored 40 seconds into the match taking a quick lead.

The hosts lead wouldn't last long as Alfredo Bozalongo finished off an Ian Krajna cross just 56 seconds later to tie the game at one. The 2nd minute goal was the second of the year for Bozalongo, while the assist for Krajna was his first career college point.

After the action-packed start, both teams settled into the match with some back and forth play in the midfield.

Cole McNally picked up three saves in the first half, including a diving stop in the 18th minute on a long Lancer shot.

Lucas Caldas, Diogo Branco and Bozalongo all took shot attempts in the opening half to try and break the tie, but Caldas' missed the frame, while Branco and Bozalongo's shots were blocked.

The teams hit the halftime break tied 1-1 with the Lancers holding a strong 9-4 advantage in the shot category.

Second half action saw competitive and physical play on both sides, with each squad putting together promising attacks that were stymied by the other's backline.

McNally made another sprawling save in the 50th minute leading to a William & Mary counterattack. Krajna seemed destined for goal, taking a pass down the left side into the 18 and firing off a shot that was saved and the game remained 1-1.

After five consecutive shots from the Lancers that couldn't find the frame, the Tribe put together their most sustained attack of the night taking five shots between the 70th and 80th minute. Branco highlighted the chances, placing three shots on goal in a 36 second span. All three attempts were saved by the Longwood keeper.

The final ten minutes saw both sides unable to create chances as fatigue began to set in on a steamy night in Farmville. The 1-1 final score kept W&M unbeaten against the Lancers in the all-time series, holding an 8-0-2 advantage.

The Green and Gold were awarded eight corners to Longwood's three. The shot total after the full 90 favored the hosts 16-11, and both teams placed five shots on goal apiece. McNally finished with four saves for the Tribe.
