Delossantos Knocks In Four, But Towson Strikes Late In Tribe Loss

TOWSON, MD- Down 5-0 early, William & Mary bounced back to tie the game at 5-5 behind four RBIs from Joe Delossantos, but Towson would rally late to hand the Tribe a 9-5 loss Sunday afternoon. Delossantos was 2-4 with a three-run homer and an RBI single. Ben Williamosn continued his outstanding senior season going 3-5 with a homer and two runs scored.

Tom Mayer was outstanding in his longest relief outing of the year, allowing one run over 5.1 innings of work. The senior struck out four and allowed four hits without issuing a walk while keeping the Tribe in the game during the middle innings.

Towson jumped on the Tribe early as the Tigers hit two-run shots in the first and the second to make it 4-0 early. The home team would plate another, taking advantage of a William & Mary error in the third to extend the lead to five.

Nate Goranson and Lucas Carmichael singled to lead off the Tribe fourth, setting the table for Delossantos' three-run blast to left. After a clean inning from Mayer, Williamson led off the fifth with his second homer of the weekend to make it cut Towson's lead to 5-4.

It was Delossantos again coming up clutch in the seventh as the Tribe tied the game. Williamson led off the frame with a single and later scored on an RBI hit from Delossantos to make it 5–5.

After another shutdown inning from Mayer in the Towson seventh, the Tigers would break through with a four-run eighth behind a pair of walks, a double, and a two-run homer.

Up Next: The Tribe will head home for a big weekend series hosting Northeastern beginning Friday evening at Plumeri Park.
