Tribe Wraps Up Undefeated CAA Regular-Season with Convincing Win at Elon

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's tennis won its sixth in a row, rolling to a 6-1 road win at Elon on Saturday afternoon.
 
The match was originally scheduled for the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center but was moved indoors to the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center in Greensboro, N.C. due to weather.
 
The change in venure to little to slow W&M (12-4, 5-0) as the program completed a perfect CAA regular season by capturing the doubles point and following with victories in five of the six singles tilts. Sophomores Hedda Gurholt (No. 1), Emma Fernald (No. 4) and Ine Stange (No. 5) senior Elisia Van Meeteren (No. 2) and graduate student Sofiya Kuzina (No. 3) all posted singles wins in the victory.
 
How It Happened
- For the 10th time in its 16 matches, the Tribe captured the doubles point, this time behind wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
- Gurholt and freshman Emma Pell won their third in a row at No. 3, blanking the Elon (14-6, 3-2 CAA) team of Olivia Archer and Miray Konar. The Tribe tandem improved to 6-2 on the year.
- Kuzina and Stange, who are ranked No. 77 nationally, clinched the initial point of the match with a win on the top line. The Green and Gold pair dropped just two games in a convincing 6-2 win over Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding. Kuzina and Stange improved to 9-2 on the year.
- In singles action, Kuzina dropped just four total games at No. 3 to pick up a straight-sets win over Madison Cordisco, 6-2, 6-2, She improved to 14-11 overall and 7-3 at No. 3.
- For the second-straight weekend, Gurholt won in come-from-behind fashion at the top spot, this time increasing W&M's lead to 3-0. After dropping the first in narrow fashion to Elon's Sibel Tanik, 7-5, the Tribe sophomore dropped just three more games in a pair of convincing set victories, 6-2, 6-1. Gurholt won her sixth in a row, moving to 17-7 on the year, 12-3 at No. 1 and a perfect 5-0 in CAA play.
- Like her fellow classmate, Fernald remained undefeated in CAA play (5-0), clinching the Tribe win with a victory at No. 4. She dispatched of Helen Sarikulaya, 6-3, 7-6 (3), to extend her win streak to five. Fernald ran her singles ledger to 16-8 and 9-5 at No. 4.
- Van Meeteren also remained unbeaten in CAA play at 5-0 with a three-set win over Lizette Reding, 7-5, 0-6, 6-4, at No. 2. She improved to 16-8 overall and 6-4 on line two.
- Stange rounded out the Tribe victory with a three-set win over Julie Ball, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (5), at No. 5. It was her seventh-straight win as she ran her mark to 12-7 overall, including an impressive 8-1 in dual-match action.

The Tribe closes out the regular season when It travels to Richmond on Sunday, April 16, at 2 p.m.
