Lax Edged by Towson in Cipolla’s Record-Breaking Performance

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Sarah Cipolla etched her name into the William & Mary lacrosse record book on Saturday afternoon, but a tremendous effort by the Tribe came up just short in a 13-10 setback to Towson at Martin Family Stadium.

In addition to equaling her own single-game school record for draw controls (11), Cipolla became the program's career leader with 164 by eclipsing the previous record of 156 set by Ellen Shaffrey (2012-15).

After an electric finish to the opening half that saw the Tribe rattle off four goals in a span of just 1:43, W&M (6-6, 2-2) trailed by just one goal at the intermission, 8-7.

A 3-1 spurt to open the fourth quarter drew the Tribe within just one again, 10-11, but Towson (9-3, 4-0) scored the game's final two goals to remain unbeaten in conference play.

Tribe Standouts
In addition to equaling her own school record with 11 draw controls, Cipolla also found the back of the cage twice.

Paige Gilbert (3g, 1a) and Sam Van Gieson (3g) also came up big offensively with hat tricks.

Goalie Elise Palmer posted another strong performance with 13 saves and a .500 save percentage.

Inside the Numbers
Towson outshot the Tribe, 35-22, including a 26-19 advantage in shots on goal.

The Tigers also held advantages in draw controls (14-13), ground balls (19-14) and committed nine fewer turnovers (19-10).

The Opposition
Lindsey Marshall (4g) and Milana Zizakovic (3g, 1a) led Towson with four points apiece, while Blair Pearre also recorded a hat trick with three goals. Pearre added a team-high nine draw controls.

Paiton Abbott and Olivia Malamphy led the squad defensively, as both players tallied three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
