WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team concluded its non-conference slate with an exciting 10-9 comeback victory against George Washington at Martin Family Stadium on Wednesday evening.
After trailing by as many as five in the second quarter, W&M (7-6) held the Colonials (4-10) scoreless during the entire second half to secure the triumph. Goalie
Marin Wilhelm entered the contest at the beginning of the third quarter and posted six saves en route to recording the second half shutout.
With the win, W&M improves to 4-0 in games decided by a single goal this season.
Tribe Standouts
Maresa Moyer led a balanced offensive attack with three goals, while
Paige Gilbert added a pair of goals.
Miranda Bate tallied two points (1g, 1a), while
Sarah Cipolla provided the game-winner with 4:54 remaining in the contest.
Seven different Tribe players scored at least one goal.
Caroline Hertzberg came up big defensively with three caused turnovers and a career-high six ground balls to go with a pair of draw controls.
Ainsley Huizenga also played well on the draw circle and secured a career-high six draw controls.
Inside the Numbers
W&M outshot GW, 29-24, including a 20-18 edge in shots on goal.
The Tribe also owned a 13-10 advantage in draw controls, while GW registered one more ground ball (16-15).
Both teams committed 11 turnovers apiece.
The Opposition
Whitney Moran led the Colonials with four goals, while Emily Mowbray (2g) and Katelyn Walker (1g, 1a) added two points apiece.
Kerry McKeever scored once and totaled a team-high four draw controls, while goalie Mia Caro recorded 10 saves.
