Lax Concludes Road Slate with 14-9 Setback at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The William & Mary lacrosse team concluded its road slate with a 14-9 setback at Monmouth on Saturday.
 
After trailing by as many as seven, 10-3, midway through the third quarter, W&M (7-8, 2-4) charged back with an impressive 6-2 run that narrowed the margin to just three with 5:25 remaining.
 
However, Monmouth (9-7, 3-3) held the Tribe scoreless during the final stretch to preserve the conference victory.
 
The Hawks scored the contest's first four goals and then utilized a 6-1 run that bridged the second and third quarters to build the seven-goal lead.
 
Tribe Standouts
Justyce Barber led the Tribe with three goals – all of which came during the 6-2 run late in the contest that narrowed the margin to just three.
 
Sarah Cipolla also posted three points (2g, 1a) to go with two draw controls and a caused turnover. With the effort, she moved into a tie for second on W&M's single-season list for draw controls (59).
 
Goalie Elise Palmer posted a team-high three caused turnovers with four ground balls and nine saves. Courtney Vasquenza also totaled four ground balls.
 
Inside the Numbers
Monmouth owned a 21-5 advantage in draw controls, while W&M held a 19-17 edge in ground balls.
 
The Tribe committed 10 fewer turnovers (12-22).
 
Monmouth outshot W&M, 36-32, including a narrow 23-22 margin in shots on goals.

The Opposition
Caroline Brennan led Monmouth with five points (3g, 2a), while Ella Spears (2g, 2a), Cassidy Orban (2g) and Danielle McNeely (2g) all found the back of the cage multiple times.
 
Mya Brock posted a team-high seven draw controls, while Organ and Brianna Falco recorded six apiece.
 
Defensively, Mary Kate George registered a game-high four caused turnovers, while goalie Kennedy Fruit posted 13 saves.
 
Up Next
W&M will conclude its regular-season slate when it hosts Elon for Senior Day at Martin Family Stadium next Saturday at noon.
