STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The William & Mary lacrosse team fell at No. 6 Stony Brook, 20-6, on Saturday.
W&M (7-7, 2-3) owned an early 2-1 advantage after goals by
Sam Van Gieson and
Sydney Witwer, but SBU (10-3, 5-0) utilized an 11-0 run to build a comfortable advantage.
After trailing 14-3 at halftime, W&M was outscored by just three in the second half.
Tribe Standouts
Witwer led the Tribe offensively with three points (2g, 1a), while
Sarah Cipolla (1g, 1a) and Van Gieson (1g, 1a) recorded two points apiece.
Caroline Hertzberg also came up big with six draw controls and a pair of ground balls. With the effort, she moves into 10th place on W&M's career draw controls list with 98.
Inside the Numbers
SBU outshot W&M, 38-10, including a 28-7 margin on goal.
The Seawolves also owned advantages in draw controls (18-10) and ground balls (16-9), while they committed 10 fewer turnovers (10-20).
The Opposition
Ellie Masera led SBU with six points (4g, 2a) and a game-high 10 draw controls.
Jaden Hampel (3g, 1a), Morgan Mitchell (3g, 1a), Kailyn Hart (3g) and Charlotte Verhulst (3g) all recorded hat tricks.
