Tribe Baseball Falls To Elon Saturday

WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary could not get the bats going in an 8-0 defeat to Elon Saturday afternoon. The loss evened up the series setting up a rubber match Sunday afternoon.

Elon did the majority of its damage in a four run fifth inning before adding three unearned runs in the ninth. The Tribe got men in scoring position in the second, fourth, sixth, and ninth but could never capitalize.

In his return to the mound, Casey Green was effective, allowing no runs on no hits over his lone inning of work. Brian Craven's record dropped to 2-3 on the year as he picked up the loss, allowing one run on two hits and striking out four over 2.0 innings.

Cory Wall retired the first nine men he faced in relief. Overall the graduate student tossed 4.0 frames out of the pen and allowed zero earned runs on just two hits with six strikeouts. As a staff, the Tribe struck out 11 men in the game.

After a pair of scoreless innings to begin the game, Elon took a 1-0 lead in the third on a walk and a pair of softly hit singles to center before Craven ended the threat with his fourth strikeout of the game. The Phoenix struck again in the fifth for four runs, highlighted by an Adam Berry three-run homer, making it a 5-0 game.

A single, a walk, and an error would load the bases in the ninth when a two-out double would bring in three runs, giving the Phoenix eight on the day.
