WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- With two outs, trailing by one, William & Mary produced three straight hits, culminating in
Corey Adams' single to right to walk off Elon for the second time in three days. The Green and Gold captured the rubber match 4-3 Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
Tank Yaghoubi roped his third hit of the day into right on a 3-2 pitch to start the rally.
Cole Ragone followed with a double into right center, putting men on second and third as Adams stepped to the dish. The freshman smoked a 1-1 fastball into right, easily plating Yaghoubi and Ragone to secure the Tribe's fourth straight CAA series win, and its fifth straight series win overall.
Nate Goranson hit his third homer of the season and scored twice in the contest and
Nate Knowles,
Zach Tsakounis, and
Carter Lovasz limited Elon to just three runs on five hits, striking out 14.
Knowles was nothing short of dominant in his 3.0 innings of work. The sophomore did not allow a hit and walked two, while striking out eight men on 61 total pitches.
Tsakounis was strong in three innings of relief, striking out a trio of batters. Tsakounis allowed just one run on one hit, facing just 10 men. Lovasz picked up his third win of the season allowing two runs on four hits, striking out three.
The Tribe finally broke through in the fourth as Goranson lifted a 1-1 pitch over the 370 sign in left center to give the Green and Gold a 1-0 lead. Tanner Holliman would tie the game up with a solo homer of his own to open up Elon's half of the fifth.
Elon took the lead in the seventh on a two-run homer off the bat of Luke Stephenson. The Tribe got one back in the bottom half as
Corey Adams knocked in Goranson with a sac fly to center, but William & Mary left the tying run at second.
The Tribe would get after Elon reliever and CAA save leader Ben Simon with a pair of outs to pull off the second William & Mary walk off win in three days.
Up Next: The Tribe will look to get back in the win column with a Tuesday trip to Durham to take on Duke.
