WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Squaring off against a nationally ranked opponent for the second time this season, the William & Mary lacrosse team fell at No. 11 Maryland, 22-4, on Wednesday evening.
W&M (2-4) got on the scoreboard first and trailed by just three, 6-3, late in the first quarter, but Maryland (4-3) outscored the Tribe 18-1 during the remainder of the contest.
Tribe Standouts
Sarah Cipolla,
Serena Jacobs,
Paige Gilbert and
Sam Van Gieson all scored goals for W&M, while
Kate Draddy registered an assist. Cipolla also tallied a team-high four draw controls.
Defensively,
Kathleen Cozzi totaled two caused turnovers with two ground balls, while goalie
Marin Wilhelm posted seven saves in 30 minutes of action.
Inside the Numbers
Maryland outshot the Tribe, 43-18, including a 32-12 margin on goal.
The Terps also held advantages in draw controls (22-8) and ground balls (18-13), while they committed three fewer turnovers (13-16).
The Opposition
Kori Edmondson (4g), Emma Muchnick (4g), Hannah Leubecker (3g, 1a) and Eloise Clevenger (1g, 3a) led UM with four points apiece, while Libby May recorded a hat trick (3g).
Shaylan Ahearn secured a game-high 12 draw controls.
