WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- The Tribe bullpen allowed just three hits, a walk, and zero runs over the final 7.0 innings of the ballgame to help defeat Canisius 5-3 Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
Zach Tsakounis picked up the win allowing just one hit over 3.0 innings, while
Cory Wall earned the 12-out save with eight strikeouts.
The Green and Gold trailed 3-0 after the middle of the second inning, but the Tribe would get clutch hits from
Cole Ragone and Cory Adams, coupled with the outstanding pitching of Tsakounis and Wall would lead the home team to victory.
Canisius wasted no time getting on the board as leadoff man Mike DeStefano would start the game with a walk and later score an unearned run to give the Griffins an early 1-0 edge. A Kyle Kush two-run homer with a pair of outs in the second would give Canisius a three-run lead.
William & Mary would get on the board in the second as Ragone and Adams would both double to produce a run. The Tribe would score again in the third as
Nate Goranson shot a two-out double to left center and scored on Ragone's single to center.
William & Mary took the lead in the bottom of the fifth as
Ben Williamson,
Joe Delossantos, and
Lucas Carmichael all reached with no outs to load the bases. Williamson would score on a wild pitch, Delossantos came around on an error, and Adams' second hit of the game would plate Carmichael to give the Tribe a 5-3 edge.
Wall would take over in the sixth and dominate, retiring the first six men he faced, four via the punch out. Wall would strikeout two more in the eighth and a pair in the ninth to ice the Tribe win.
